My
Journey in Art
My work in art didn't begin until well after my life as wife, mother, and
grandmother. I was always interested in learning how to do art and would take
various classes but it wasn't until I was introduced to Mark Menendez and art
done with colored pencil that I knew I found the medium I wanted to learn more
about. I immediately took to using colored pencil and really enjoyed it. So I
continued taking Mark's classes.
Mark is like no other teacher I've ever had. He not only taught me the
fundamentals of art, (the color wheel, perspective, shadows, highlights, etc.)
and how to use the colored pencil, but he taught me how to see things
differently. He taught me that art is not just putting color and design on paper
but putting part of yourself on that paper. I learned to be loose and free, to
express myself and not to look over my shoulder at the person next to me and
compare my work with theirs. That is when art becomes a burden and not an
enjoyment. Taking his classes have really boosted my self worth and confidence
in myself.
I have been doing art for 5 years and I hope to do it for many more years. With
the angel of art sitting on my hand to guide me, I will only get better and
someday be an inspiration to someone else.
