Someone once said that all artists are self-taught, and that is true to a certain extent.  But what Mark's students can also attest to is that an accomplished, caring, and dedicated instructor can make a world of difference in showing us that we can actually paint something we can be proud of, whether it be a portrait, landscape, still life, or whatever else strikes our artistic fancy.

I've dabbled in oils for years ("dabbled" being the operative word!) but my work has improved dramatically since I started taking lessons with Mark.  One of my major goals was to master painting drapery, an integral ingredient in so many still lifes.  Thanks to Mark, mission accomplished, plus so much more.  My work is no longer "flat", but has taken on such dimension and depth that People have said objects in my still lifes look as though they could be picked right off the canvas for a quick snack.  One lady was so thrilled with the portrait of her dog, she asked me over and over again how I managed to capture his personality so perfectly.  What painter wouldn't want to receive compliments like those!

MY compliments go to Mark.  In my humble opinion, there is no more patient or encouraging art instructor on this planet.  Mark's a born teacher.  He is generous with his knowledge, and not at all stingy when it comes to sharing those so-called "tricks of the trade".  And when I seem to hit a plateau and think I'm not improving, he gears his instruction to my individual improvement and growth as an artist.

Perhaps the most important aspect of his classes is this- they are fun. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with lots of artistic interaction.  We joke about our mistakes, get over them and move on.  We're serious, but not so serious we can't have fun.  I can truly say that I now love painting more than ever, simply because Mark gave me the skills and confidence to succeed at just about anything.  Thanks, Mark.  You're the best!!
